Hi there,
Is there any specific grease/oil etc that needs to be used to lubricate the mechanisms on double glazed windows and doors?
The reason I'm asking is because we had a few windows replaced last year and they advised my Dad to keep all our window mechanisms lubricated, however I am not sure on what kind of grease to use and I was not there when they told my Dad.
Suggestions please.

Dry silicone spray
I think i'd be tempted to do the locking mech and sliding bolts only - afaik most of the hinge mechanisms are friction hinges so lubricating them might have an adverse affect.
Don't ever use oil or grease on locks. Powdered graphite is my favourite.

And a variant - PTFE spray. Can be good, especially where you don't want to leave a sticky mess. Though it does leave a white deposit.
I have used lithium grease (available in aerosol cans) quite a few times recently. Stays in place pretty well. White - so not very obvious. Certainly it works well on our garden gate hinges. Maybe others have their views on its suitability?
What brand name is it available in please.

Just a thought for those of us with worn friction stays/hinges, I'm sure I've seen a "grease" that actually increases friction many years ago, but can't remember what or where.
I will actually get around to replacing the things eventually!

I've been using 3 in 1 silicone spray for some time now and yes it does free them up a bit, but if changing the upstairs one's is the alternative, I prefer lubricating them. The great advantage of the spray over the old oil can, is easily reaching the parts, other lubricants can't manage.

I think I'll be getting some dry silicone spray, I have seen it being used at my school.
