On what? Laptop, phone, ...?

I run my (Android) phone with no 'accounts' at all. I have a rarely used Google account that I use only when absolutely necessary, now that I've discovered Aurora (app search) I don't even need the Google account to get new apps on my phone.

Desk top. A few months age Google got stressed about me not using my G mail account.

I suspect this is a follow up with them clearing out *freeloaders*.

Currently they are not accepting my login password.

I knew this would get *clever*:-)

I think it's the option to log in with Google, it can be turned off in Brave, don't know about other browsers.

Are you talking about using your desktop to pick up mail from your gmail account using an email client? There's work to do if so, I can post instructions if required.

Thunderbird *is* an email client. Before you can use it pick up mail (from gmail or anywhere else) you need to enter the name of the mail server and your login details for that server. You've evidently already done this. Recently, however, Google has required that your client either be able to login to gmail using OAUTH2 [1] or that you login to your Google account and set up two-factor-authentication. If you do that, then you can get them to issue you a special password that you put into Thunderbird, after which you can pick up mail as before.

There's a setting within google accounts that should disable it from being used to login to 3rd party sites, mine is set to "no thanks" but I've noticed lately that is being ignored, and I keep getting asked to login with google e.g. on every local rag website, which I never do.

Presumably you have a 'live' Google login then as otherwise how would a site know that you have a Google account? If this isn't the case then surely it's simply web sites *guessing* that you might have a Google account and it's the fault of that web site and nothing to do with Google.

Very likely I do have a login to google, and I also have two apps, two devices and two websites which I have granted access to part of my google data, but google are disregarding their own setting to "not offer signin to 3rd party sites with google"

This is a fairly recent change, but fat chance of finding any way to get in touch and complain about it ...
