Gas pipe fittings?

I'm about to run in some 15mm Propane gas pipe, to be checked later by a CORGI engineer.

Are there any regulations about what sort of fittings should be used? E.G. end-feed, solder-ring, Yorkshire, compression etc? Are there any special fluxes or joining agents?

Have you seen Ed Sirrett's gas fitting faq?

end feed and solder ring are OK everywhere; compression is only to be used where the joint is accessible.

You have to be CORGI registered to fit gas pipe (duck n cover...!)

Rubbish. If you ask a question, and the answer enables you to do the job competently, you can do the job in a competent manner. You are competent, and your competency is enabled by the answer to the question. Whichever way I look at these words, they don't seem to scan well. Must be the old cider again, but YKWIM.

Only if you ask the right questions !

competency= ability: the ability to do something well, measured against a standard, especially ability acquired through experience or training

Would you say you were competent at English? Do you sometimes need to look up how to spell a word, or its usage?

Yes, it's a classic catch-22 situation. You are only permitted to do it if you are competent and if you need to ask you can't be competent, so then you should not be doing it.

Sorry, but this is nonsense. My original question asked what the regulations were in relation to gap pipe fittings, not which end of a blowtorch to use.

As an aside, I recently had a new boiler fitted by a well established local firm. I would have done it myself, but an old back injury made it impossible. I moved a few radiators while the system was drained down, the only joint that leaked was one of theirs ;-)

Exactly.... you are confusing skill with competency

Not at all. An expert is not someone who knows everything about a subject, he is someone who knows where to find it.
