FYI: running cost of Kidde Slick alarms

I asked Kidde about the power consumption of their "Slick" alarms. The figures Kidde Technical Support sent me are pasted below. Can they be serious?



"The actual measured average standby current consumption of the 1SFW,



1SFWR, 3SFW and 3SFWR is 41.3mA and the 2SFW and 2SFWR is 34.62 mA.

Note: Standby current consumption excludes periods where the unit is in alarm, subjected to testing or used outside the terms of the user manual.



This means that:-



Based on an Annual cost / kWh for energy using standby current (per each alarm unit), see table below:



1SFW, 1SFWR, 3SFW and 3SFWR:

Price / kW hour Annual Cost £0.15 £13.02 £0.14 £12.15 £0.13 £11.28 £0.12 £10.42 £0.11 £9.55 £0.10 £8.68


2SFW, 2SFWR:

Price / kW hour Annual Cost £0.15 £10.91 £0.14 £10.18 £0.13 £9.46 £0.12 £8.73 £0.11 £8.00 £0.10 £7.28"


(For a comparison Aico claim their Ei3106 uses 0.25 W in standby

You appear to be out by a factor of 3 or 4 for the cost per KWh

Not me: everything within the quotes was from Kidde.

Occurred to me that power factor may matter. Some old mains alarms had power factors around 0.05. I've asked Kidde.
