Foam gun cleaning

IME it isn't normal to have leaks. I've dismantled and cleaned 2 cheap'ish foam guns but without much success. A couple of years ago I spent a bit more on a "Roughneck 32-320 Professional Foam Gun Deluxe" and it's performed flawlessly.

Just for the record I gave the gun a strip down and clean and had a go with foam managed to complete what I needed to foam up but then noticed a small amount of foam leaking from the back end of the needle near the trigger and also from the valve housing. So it is another for the junk pile and I will go by your recommendation re the Roughneck 32-320.

I bought a decent, teflon coated gun when I was fitting new windows, never left a can of foam on it for more than a couple of days at a time, cleaned it with acetone in between, and the world was good.

Then I started getting lazy and leaving a can on it for a few weeks, it got gunged up, I managed to clear the valve/ball assembly, it happened again, and I never got it clean and back to "proper" working condition again ... If I buy a new one I shall vow never to leave a can on it ...

Hmmm, the advice is usually to leave the can on and to make sure the valve is properly closed. That's what I've done and not had any problems (with a decent gun).

Yes, me too. I'd be concerned about foam setting in the can nozzle if removed. And when I've removed apparently empty cans they still release foam - maybe the valve gets stuck open after a while.

I've kept the same can on for many months without issue. Until I forgot to close the valve on one occasion . . .

The replacement to the generic Screwfix is a Roughneck. Nicely finished but much more temperamental between uses - always seems to need a very thorough clean each time before foam runs cleanly.
