Flat battery

Similar to my set up - but when I use my car it's nearly always for a minimum 120 miles round trip.

The car did 5K miles in the last MOT year. That is a new low for me.

Stop start technology measures a shit load of parameters about battery state, charge performance over the life of the battery, temperature etc. to ensure it only activates the stop start tomfoolery when the battery is in a suitable state to be used that way. It doesn't get used as soon as you drive off and stop for the first time.

It's why many cars with such technology have to have the ECU told the battery has been changed as the parameters it has recorded over the last however many years will no longer apply to the new battery and it needs to relearn how much charging the new battery needs to get to the start stop level of charge.

When we were in full lockdown and I was only driving once/week to the supermarket, the start stop never activated on my car. I did a longer trip up and down the ring road before getting to the supermarket to get some charge into the battery. Now I am back to normal, about 600 miles/month, the start stop kicks in within a few minutes of leaving home.

Running any lead acid battery below a certain voltage threshold will significantly shorten its life. My brother in law has managed to kill a brand new unused one by leaving it on the shelf unloved for about 3 years. When he came to need it it was flat and would not hold charge.

OTOH the deep discharge ones are intended to provide a fairly large current for an extended period of time whereas a car battery is heavily optimised to provide an insanely high current for just a few seconds.

That high current optimisation for use starting a car comes at a price.

Eh? Deep discharge types tend to be more expensive than the same size car battery.

Car batteries have the advantage of economies of scale with production. Many leisure batteries are rebadged car batteries where CCA is still often specced.

Remember buying a Delco car battery some time ago. Gave different warranties by use. Longest for car, then golf trolley, then leisure. I'd guess you'd not normally run a golf trolley battery flat.

That's why some have a special connector so staff can change the battery after every use.

Not a financial price a functionality price.

The price is paid when you try to use them in an unsuitable role. Deep discharge batteries have thicker lead plates and are physically more robust than car batteries (optimised for short burst high current).
