fixing timber door stop to concrete

Have an outward-opening patio door at work which needs a door stop, and I (rashly?) offered to do it. Was thinking of a short bit of 3"x2" fixed to the ground which would act as stop and also something to fix a hook to. How best to fix the timber to the (thick) concrete pad? Should I drill and set studs in, or would hefty screws and plugs be ok? Thanks for any wisdom. Peter

Wouldn't a closer be more suitable. It would stop the door slamming in a draught and allow it to open adequately.

Yes thanks closer might be a good idea too - will still need a stop on ground though as when open to the limit door is too far from wall to attach a stop. At the moment it has a restraining tie thing on the top of the door which tends to pull the hinges out when door opened, plus it doesn't open very far which is not good as used by disabled children some in wheelchairs.

They are absolutely brilliant.

Toolstation do them in packs of 10, but only in hex head - you could counterbore hem.

So this stop is for the open rather than closed position of the door. Wasn't sure from the orginal. Plastic plugs and stainless screws will fix the 3 x 2 to the concrete. The timber will need to be well treated or it'll rot quite quickly. How high will the stop be? 2" is likely to pose a trip hazard when the door is closed.

Is it not possible to have something higher up and sticking out, though that poses a hazard as well. A stop just at the bottom of the door is just asking for the door to be pushed hard against it from high up thus stressin the door in ways it's not really designed to be stressed. You can get door hooks that are quite long.
