fixing cables to various surfaces.

Just a bit of info here, regarding the fixing of cables to various surfaces. It is possible to use a No 4 self tapper in place of the nail in a normal cable clip. Maybe not the little clips that have thin nails; I'm talking about decent quality ones for, say 2.5 T & E, which have a thick nail. You don't need to drill the hole out; just drive the screw into the plastic. Hold the clip in pliers while you do it. To fix onto a steel plate (this is what I do often for TV system head-end boards) use a 2mm or 2.5mm or 5/64" HSS drill. The screws only need to be 3/4" long. If the plate is aluminium use a 2mm drill. For plastic use a 0.5 or 1mm drill. For fixing to masonry, drill a 5.5mm hole and use a red plug, or a 7mm hole and use a brown plug. The screws should be 1.5".

I used special clips and "Hilti" shot fired nails in the past. (For thick steel girders)
