I need to buy 3 of these and 3 4"*4" posts. I've had a look in B&Q but the quality didn't seem very good. Anybody know where I can get good quality ones. Also what do I need to treat them with to protect them from rot etc or can you buy them already treated?
Yellow pages, well actually get the details of the local companies who will supply them. Plenty around here (Stoke on Trent) and they will even happily make just one special size panel for you.
If you have an Alsford Timber yard near you they are very good, and will delivery locally for free. Their Clifton Lap fence is the type you are after I think, the products are treated.
I looked at this - but the quality wasn't good across the board - even on the good ones. So Saturday I received 10 linear metres of materials to make a featheredge fence myself. Granted it was hard going - but most of that was 2.7M posts and sinking them to the right depth - then getting the cant rails on level etc - but the ed result is blody excellent IMHO.
Cost - 160 quid for materials, bags of post fix, nails etc.
B&Q. Bliddy B&Q. Go to your BM and see what they've got, you will probably find better, possbly cheaper.
They should be ready-treated, but soak the post ends in creosote (read: creosote substitute, available in 20l drums at Wickes etc) overnight for a good job. The panels will last for ages anyway, although a coat of golden creosote will make a nice general colour.
10 metres?
Oh! Tell me! I've just had the lovely job of replacing 8 posts cast into a concrete retaining wall. What a sod!

Did you use galvanised brackets? I hate those things. Don't get me started on metposts, now!
