Sorry to be ignorant here, but would Facebook Container stop FB snooping activities on Chrome?

Browsers don't share information, so what you do in Chrome stays in Chrome - Firefox doesn't see it, and vice versa. The only time they do is when you run one for the first time and it says 'do you want to import your settings from ...?'.

So one browser for FB and one for everything else is equivalent to the 'container' plugins.

I find it tricky to go into the various "security" settings on a phone but on desktop you can go into "privacy & security" and close down a whole load of things; the more obvious being personal things that you set to show to "only me" there are other things to block in there like "face tagging/recognition", prevent tagging in posts or pictures and so on.

Doesn't stop FB from hoarding the data but it reduces the risk of outsiders building up profile snippets.

Don't have any "friends" on there. We've been tracking down (investigating) suspicious customers that place orders for over 10 years now and FB can lead to a whole spiral of exposure through "friends" and "friends of friends" due to settings detailed above being left open from default.

Personally I use a psudonym, disposable e-mail address, no mobile number and so on. Don't even have immediate family members as "friends" Also sporadically go through all past posts and restrict the visibility to "friends only"

When you delete your account it's never actually deleted, it still sits on FB servers ready for you to change your mind.

They're probably people who are also following the event you're interested in. In Facebook's opinion they must surely be people you want to be 'friends' with.

I find all matters Android, Google, and Gmail absolutely opaque and incomprehensible. Many parameters in "Settings" appear to be buried so deeply they are almost impossible to find. I think that when I created a Gmail account for my wife a Google account was also created automatically. So are you referring to a "contact sync" in a Google account, Gmail account, both, or something else? I couldn't find something called "contact sync" in any of the account settings but there were things of a similar name and possibly similar function.

settings cog, accounts, google, account sync, then individual types of sync can be disabled including contacts

Thanks. i just found it on my mobile phone and turned everything off. On the Acer tablet it wasn't the same setup, but some time ago I must have turned off all sync, as nothing had been synced for well over a year.

Borrow your neighbour's laptop, or use a library one. If you really are that paranoid.
