There is probably some statistic saying how many thousand people had to be hospitalised injuring themselves whist bending down to switch off a power socket. Factor in these costs. The energy taken on one ambulance journey is equivalent to how many wall warts being left on?

Disable the clumsy internal PDF reader in firefox by entering the URL into the address bar
about:config
then type pdfjs.disabled in the preferences search box, and double click that entry so it becomes disabled, then you can choose a proper external PDF reader (cutepdf, foxit, sumatra, acrobat etc).
OK Andy. I had been using acrobat but Firefox throws a wobbly when I try to get the latest version.
Version 8 is OK but slow on this m/c.

Seeing far too many problems with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC to be impressed by that approach. Oddly, I have found Edge works surprisingly well.
Sumatra is lightweight, it doesn't do form filling, probably doesn't handle (all?) encrypted files, but if they're not important to you, give it a whirl ...
I wouldn't specifically recommend Acrobat, but some people seem wedded to it, disabling the inbuilt javascript based PDF viewer, allows you to choose any of the others ...
Too many adverts with Edge for my liking, plus I don't believe the hype that it's an entirely new browser ... IE with CaptiveX and most of the configuration options ripped-out more like.
How do you cope with things that do need to be left switched on? Cookers and microwaves with a clock. PVRs, etc?
I had friends who couldn't get their VCR to record. They turned it off every night and didn't bother to reset the clock in the morning. Oh dear.
Is who blocking Adobe upgrades? It doesn't affect me anyway, I use Preview.
I suppose we all started out with acrobat.
The only form filling I need is HMRC and Govt. Gateway stuff. I have no idea how that works:-)

Well, they aren't wall warts, which is what we were discussing. But things that have timers are in use, so they get left on. Things that have no reason to be left on, like chargers that aren't charging anything, get switched off.
Their internal PS may well be of an identical design, though.
You are assuming the power point they are plugged into is easily accessible. May not be everywhere.
