Endurance Paint Coverage - Urgent

Hi all

Just occurred to me that you guys will probably have more clue than the shed droids! I am about to buy paint for hallway/stairs and intend to get Dulux Endurance Matt. Anyone know what sort of coverage I am likely to see? Walls are new skim plaster (well dry) that have been sealed with dilute PVA. Total area I make 50 sq metres - includes landings etc. From the Dulux site it looks like 2 coats are recommended.

I have tried the paint calculator but would prefer real life estimate.

TIA

Phil

TheScullster wibbled:

OK - I went over my new plaster with one coat of cheaper white normal Dulux as I was painting the ceiling at the same time and the white "regular" Dulux is cheaper than the Endurance. Doing that should get better coverage with the Endurance coats.

Now - I bought a 5l tin and did 2 coats of endurance over about 35m2 of walls and have under a litre left. And I'm heavy handed with paint - that was rollered on BTW.

So I make that *about* the same (15m2/l) as they give on the paint calculator. Odd as I usually halve the claimed coverage rate. Dulux must be one of the more honest sellers?..

Anyway, if you don't prep the plaster with a coat of cheap white, it might take a little more but the calculator seems about right.

Thanks Tim

Had to go out and buy the stuff before seeing your response, but it looks like I am getting an average of 12m2 per litre over the two coats. I have bought 7.5 litres so may end up with a slight shortfall on the 50m2 area. As one of the spaces is a corridor-type-landing, shade variations from additional tins shouldn't be an issue.

TheScullster coughed up some electrons that declared:

If you do run out, try to start the new batch on an edge - you won't see any difference at all even if there is a fractional variation in the shades.

I recently used Endurance *Silk* - see my recent posting about brushstrokes.

A 2.5L tin did two coats of around 12 to 15m^2, with some to spare. This was on to heavish textured lining paper. I diluted it about 5% with water for the first brush coat, and then further added about 5% of 'Floatol' paint conditioner for the second rolled coat. Since I was trying to get rid of brushstrokes I was a bit more generous on the second coat than I usually am. The Floatol did seem to make the paint 'go' further.

So I'd say the estimates aren't too far out. But watch out for the brushstrokes.
