We do have them - melamine foam.

Personally I quite fancy a Michelangelo printed on sticky-back-plastic for the bedroom ceiling

After cleaning it by whatever means you choose I would suggest painting it with shellac sanding sealer before the emulsion. That should prevent any crayon residue leeching through.
