A lot has gone since then... I notice that this week is the first time for longer than a year (AFAICT from the annual GW plot) that gas has been providing more energy for the weekday evening peak than coal. Odd that Didcot shut down at the end of last week...
Coal had been at around 20GW weekdays daytime for ages, now it's down at
17 or 18 GW. Didn't think the bit of Didcot that shut was that big, so something else has changed as well.
Sorry I am a bit late responding to this - I live in South Devon and whilst I have not experienced any instability today it does happen from time to time to a minor degree. The lighting flickers a couple of times and then settles down. This has occurred a few times in the last few weeks, usually in the evenings. None of the occurrences have been sufficient to trip my router.

Any fencing cowboys dug any holes for new posts in the local area? We had the next door landowner get someone to put up a fence whereby they managed to mangle the underground cable for the street lights down the road/footpath. I reported that the street lights were out to the council. YEDL (or whoever it is now) just dug up our underground joint in the road at our boundary and spliced in another to cross the road to the street light segment. The connection is I noticed stupid amounts of flicker in the meantime even on our HF ballasted tubes. The works with the trench seemed to mark the end of it.
Forget all about gridwatch. Somebody here has found that link and thinks it answers all problems about electricity supply. It doesn't. A little knowle dge is dangerous!
Excellent advice and always the first thing we told customers when they 'ph oned in with supply problems.
Flickering lights will almost certainly be caused by a bad connection on th e local network supplying her. Is she is a rural location? Does she know if there are overhead lines feeding the local properties? Does she have a tha tched property? (Serious fire risk!)
All her neighbours are out? Is she not capable of contacting them in the ev ening? Tell her not to be so stupid. She NEEDS to contact the local distrib ution company. I've seen houses that have burned down because of a loose co nnection.

The graph on page 2 of yesterday's grid report (today's not yet available) shows us running out of gas stocks around 2nd April...
The cold spell is currently predicted to continue past that date.

I though we had last night when the lights went out almost bang on 1900.
DNO said it was a "HV fault at Penrith" and will be off untill 2230. The whole Moor was off not just our 11 kV feed so one assumes it was the 33 kV line to the local substation but why didn't it flop across to the 11 Kv backup?
Anyway the generator works, that's its 6 monthly test. B-)
