Electricity prices and switching

Electricity is currently supplied by GB Energy, who failed, and are now part of the Co-op. Current contract expires September this year, and they are urging me to switch, claiming a saving of ?98.85 per year. Current costs (bill dated 23/06) are : TCR 12.67 p/kWh 9.40p p/kWh unit rate 22.62p per day standing charge (22.62 x 365 x 1.05 = 86.80 pa inc. VAT) New contract : TCR 14.82 p/kWh 14.82 p/kWh unit rate 20.55 per day standing charge. (20.55 x 365 x 1.05 = 78.76 pa inc. VAT) We have used 5712 units over the last year. 5712 x 9.40 x 1.05 = 563.77 pa inc. VAT 5712 x 14.82 x 1.05 = 888.84 pa inc. VAT Daily charge therefore reduces by 8 pounds a year, but unit cost increases by 325 per year. What am I missing? How can that save their quoted 98 per year?

Forgot that saves another £21.00, with the £22.80 nearly pays for Total care. B-)

I'm not sure how you can say "you're not impressed" when you are looking at the cheaper "last year" prices v the more expensive "this year" prices.

Try nPower now and see what you can get. At the moment no-one has shown me a better deal than the one I'm citing.

Even your current deal is only marginally cheaper and certainly more than I was paying last year.
