Electric / water installation: BCO involvement?

New mains services, unless under new construction, is normally left to the people who install them. If it were a new build the BCO would take notes on where the services are installed for the planning records department, but that doesn't have to be done again if the positions are changed in the future. I think it's because the BCO has to liaise with the services people during and after the build in case of problems.

As I often say, the Building Regulations are concerned with the outputs, not the inputs; Building Control look at drainage but not the water supply; the flues of combustion appliances but not the fuel supply; the extract rates of fans but not their wiring; etc.

Interesting analogy. But does this apply to say oil tanks ?

Hi Are Building Control involved in inspection of electric wiring and/or water supply at all, including provision of the new supplies? Or are these left up to the relevant inspectors (eg NICEIC etc) to check? Just that I'm currently having new electricity and water supplies laid on (God, what a carry-on that has been); and am not sure whether Building Control will be concerned about stuff like where the I'm siting the lecky meter/CU; or whether that's left to the discretion of the electric supply company who install them? Thanks David

NICEIC are not (despite their name) a relevant inspector.

Electric wiring is subject to the Building Regs in Scotland, but not yet in England. However BS7671 does not apply to Suppliers Works anyway AFAIK.

Oil storage tanks now come under the Regulations in order to prevent pollution. Building Control still doesn't look after the supply to the boiler.

Then why would a BCO want to check the fire valve and that the pipe is properly supported ?
