My EDF direct-debit amount had been £285 up to June, then they sent a notice raising it to £324 for July. This seemed a bit over the top but before I could contact them to complain they sent another message reducing it to £247 from August onwards. I have no idea what their algorithm is for setting direct-debit payments, but it really ought to include a bit of damping. These wild oscillations do nobody any good. I still think I'm over-paying, but will wait a bit longer to try to get that fixed.

Yes, have heard good stories about Octopus from friends so may change supplier as the rates seem to be almost identical from all suppliers at present.
But at present have a smart-meter from EDF which is refusing to provide proper data to the in-home display, and EDF seem very reluctant to fix it. So I want to get that sorted out first. Have had 3 people around to try to fix it with no end in sight.
FTAOD the switch is in progress, which may delay EDF fixing TNP's DD
It was a bit of a farce. British Gas paid me the monthly Government allowance into my bank a/c a few days after my monthly DD, so my overall balance did not increase.

I use the graphical display on Octopus’ site, available to those with an account, to adjust my DD amount to give a slight surplus for the next two months. It’s possible to do this every month, if you want to.
Doing this stopped me going into an £800 surplus this summer.
Yes, I have to say their website is brilliant in that respect.
