This is probably stupid question, and probably proof that I may be awalking hazard but... Is earth-ing absolutely necessary. I have a very long and useful powerextension cable, but its missing a third wire. The place where the earthwire should be is obviously empty in both ends. If I plug in an a standard earth ready power equipment (like a lawnmower)into the socket of the extension cable, what happens? I'm guessing it won'tbe earthed anymore? Could it be dangerous? Will it be *only* as dangerousas a power equipment plugged in a standard European home. Thanks

double insulated plastic tools certainly do. I dont remember seeing any double insulated metal bodied ones, they wouldnt, but I dont remember seing any.

the ability to remain sensible is what primarily needed for diy.

they dont. if they did, there would not be the 2 duplicate wires and plug pins, one would do. US wiring practice shows either a failure to grasp this idea, or else simply not caring.
