What does the manual say?
I googled for one. I find that on a digistat +1 this means it is broken and must be replaced (internal sensor fail). ICBA to do all the work for you.
Sensor fault function. When the display shows an error code (E1) or (E2) this indicates a sensor fault and the heating system will remain Off. (E1) = internal sensor and (E2) = external sensor. If (E1) is shown the Digistat+2 should be replaced.
