Some time ago, the high / low power switch on my Dyson vacuum cleaner became seized. The man at the Dyson shop said the switch could not be repaired or replaced. The people here suggested silicone spray, which worked just fine. Thanks for saving me £250+.

That's naughty. Switches are always a weak point and should always be replaceable.
I'm not sure whether you're talking about a mains or battery model?
We have battery powered V7 model and hardly ever use the Max setting because it reduces battery life dramatically.
It's battery. You're right about the battery life but it can be a bit tame on the low setting and can always be recharged as required. It's my servant, not the other way round :-)
