Dumb tariff

So are subsidies to owners of heat pumps, solar panels and windmills.

The current system is a subsidy for the richer in society who can afford to buy an EV. What is unfair is the large amount of tax on those who drive ICE vehicles.

Like most taxes, it's just an average which people have to pay. I don't have any children in school, and yet part of my council tax funds those who do.

Do you get a VED refund for days spent driving on the Continent.

In that instance the externalisation of costs would involve keeping the customer waiting while you did a fast-charge.

The conclusion would be then, that more than 6 hours is needed per evening.

Or, that the charging device would have to deliver at a higher power level.

Perhaps the limits are better stated in terms of max kilowatt hours allowed.

One has to draw the line somewhere, otherwise it rapidly becomes effectively a form of 'Pay per mile'.

My car was off the road (literally as well as metaphorically), for about three weeks recently due to a red light on the dashboard, which it took that long to find someone to diagnose the fault, and me have it recovered to a garage.

Who immediately binned the diagnosis, said it was much simpler, and fixed it within a couple of hours.

So I think I will draw that line to be when the vehicle is overseas, also because that's what the 1.5p lobby have chosen.

If plucking numbers out of the air, I'd go for 7.5kW.

But the comparison is entirely bogus, because no-one runs their water-heater continuously for hours.
