Dave, you might be able to answer this.
Up here in Lancashire, every emergency ambulance has the standard blue flashing lights about it, but about the middle left hand side of the rear door is a steady rectangular light. Does it mean anything?

It's on the same circuit as the blues, and shows that the vehicle is on a call if (when) it goes past a safety camera and gets its picture taken. The new flashing blue lights don't always show up as being lit on camera. Common in a lot of areas. You'll see them on fire engines, too.
