No, never happened. Various fixings failed, usually exhaust hangers, these were the days of mild steel exhausts. Sometimes a bolt dropped out under the bonnet somewhere. I once had the gears of an overdrive break, but unfortunately that took more than a coathanger or two to fix.

It'll take me a long time to forget the horrified look on the face of my Italian colleague as we explained to him that pasta comes from China, and tomatoes from the Americas... :)

Pizza, OTOH - they have ovens that look _exactly_ like modern pizza ovens in Pompeii.

As well as white- and red-wine vinegar and balsamic vinegar (from Modena, Ottavio!), we have and use the time-honoured brand leader Sarson's (non-brewed condiment) at home. I have detected no change in its taste over time.

A reasonable point to float. But I am not experiencing this change in taste, And Sam doesn't say he can't taste it when applied at home, for instance.

With the Mk I Escort when the back box of the exhaust fell off you just threw it over a hedge and carried on until the main box failed. (It never seemed to do much.) Not an MOT requirement in those days.

I got fed up with replacing the exhaust so I fitted a stainless steel system - unfortunately the fixing brackets were mild steel and rusted, so I had to fix it up with rope.

(I wonder whether any ignoramuses tied the exhaust to the nice long cylinder that runs the length of the underside of rear drive cars?)

You should watch some of the “Just rolled in” videos on YouTube. That sort of stupidity has happened many many times. ;-)

That is true - and we too have Sarsons vinegar. It isn't a perfect comparison since at home, I can always add more vinegar - should I chose to - whereas once you leave the F&C shop you can't have seconds.
