Don't believe the instructions

I bought a large induction hob a while back and decided for safe keeping would leave it boxed until I needed to install it. So retrieved the instructions to check out all the dimensions of the cut out. Started to prepare the worktop today, as the hob spans two base units I had before installing the base units checked the clearance. According to the instructions from the top of any worktop the hob needs 35mm of clearance so with a 40mm deep worktop no problem. I cut out the hole drop the hob in place only to find it rocking on the base unit sides. Turns out the hob is 50mm deep so what would have been an easy modification to the base units before installation now is a real PITA. Grrrrr!

I've fitted a sink where I have reduced the recommended size of the cut-out. The manufacturers recommendation would have resulted in a relatively thin area of the worktop supporting the sink, and with zero wriggle room.

A fair bit of butchery went on when I fitted an induction hob recently. They're a bit of a lump aren't they?

And at 50mm deep you'd not want it over a drawer.

Looks like it will be the full monty, jig saw to reduce the width of a piece at the top of the unit. The router to reduce the base unit sides and the multi tool to make a slot for the cable to slot through from behind. These things are sent to try us.

There are drawers below but will be well clear of the hob, I just need to find 10mm as the worktop is 40mm thick. The tops of the drawers are 30mm below worktop level so we are still talking of an air gap of 20mm.

It's a shame isn't it, when it's in and it looks great, but you are haunted by what lies beneath :)

Perhaps the edge bits of the hob's underside are indeed only as deep as was suggested, but the central bits hang down deeper and the assumption was you'd install it centrally in a cupboard rather than over a join between cupboards?
