DIY hand sanitiser wipes

Click the links I gave earlier. It can't be all that hard.

Sounds like you believe you're doing that already. For instance, why don't you tell govt what you think about its request for UK manufacturers to switch production to making respirators because of short supply.

If I'm reading this correctly, acetic acid is a good bet as a cleaner to kill off bacteria and viruses.

Vinegar spray?

You are not. It is peracetic acid.

"Peracetic acid (also known as peroxyacetic acid, or PAA), is an organic compound with the formula CH3CO3H. This organic peroxide is a colorless liquid with a characteristic acrid odor reminiscent of acetic acid. It can be highly corrosive.

"Peracetic acid is a weaker acid than the parent acetic acid, with a pKa of 8.2."

It was interesting.

Useful might be the WHO guide to DIY sanitiser:

Peracetic acid is also a strong oxidising agent, which acetic acid (vinegar when dilute) is not, and it is probably the oxidising ability of peracetic acid that gives it its anti-microbial properties, rather like hydrogen peroxide.

How about white spirit?

No alcohol, so no good. AFAIK, the things that will kill this virus and that are readily available to the public are household bleach, hydrogen peroxide and alcohol at greater than 60% alcohol by volume (ABV, and is not the same as 60% proof). But maybe nobody's tried white spirit.

With some methanol, but a little less than methylated spirits. It is apparently absorbed through the skin, but I can't find anywhere that gives specific data. Plenty of articles about the toxic effects of consuming at little as 10ml.

surgical spirit is 90% ethanol, 5% methanol plus a few minor ingredients, sure the laabel says not to drink it, but main uses are applying to skin ....
