DeWalt mitre saw offer

Hi all

I noticed that Screwfix have a DeWalt 703 mitre saw on offer at 179.99 pounds, reduced from 349.99 pounds. Does anyone have experience of this particular model of saw? -if so, comments appreciated

thanks

Julian

Of that particular model, no. Of the others I have seen, the general comments would be favourable, with solid construction, smooth movement, and good accuracy.

I am a not convinced by the specs on that particular model though:

main limitation seems to be maximum size of cut. If I read them right, there would appear to be no way to cut a sawn 4x2" timber which does limit the usefulness of the saw dramatically.

If you want something only for small and accurate work (one off picture frames for example) then it may be ideal.

It quotes two lots of figures for 90 degree cuts so it may do 4x2 as they overlap somewhat, but it would be worth checking. Mine has the same sized blade and will do 4x2 without using the slide.

At that price, for that work, a good quality Mitre saw and block would probably make more sense!...

Thanks to everyone for the comments. I wonder how long they actually sold it for 349.99 pounds -in the Winter 2007 catalogue (number 85), it is priced at 199.99 pounds. Does anyone know if a blade is included?

thanks

If you're in the market for a DeWalt mitre saw...

I have a DW700 I'm interested in selling on. Superb condition, 240v, with leg stand, manual, tools - =A3100. For an extra =A330 I'll include a brand new, still in packaging Freud diabolo blade. North Norfolk.

Never used outside of my workshop, never knocked about or exposed to wet/damp. Can email photos.

Only reason for selling on is buying the large bosch with 300mm crosscut. The DeWalt actually has a more precise slide.

I expect the problem is the arc of the blade guard passes through a point that would clip the corner of a 4x2", even though it can do more than 4" either laid flat or stood on the table - but not at the same time as having 2" on the other axis.

My old cheapy chop saw also had the same size blade and just about cleared the corner of a 4x2" - but then it had a far less substantial guard than the DeWalt (and sometimes needed to be bent back into shape so as to not hit the work!).

It includes a 24 tooth TCT blade.

bare minimum length of time, I should imagine. I bought a DW707 over a year ago with a 24 and a 40T for about 250.

That would be a cheaper option certainly. One of the uses I have in mind is for mitre cuts of 9cm tall skirting boards. Has anyone tried the Stanley clamping mitre block (23248-87 in the Screwfix catalogue) for this sort of purpose? Can anyone recommend which saw to get? Someone recommended Bahco in an old posting I found but I'm not which would be the best one for this application (Bahco 244 20 or 22 inch; Barracuda saw 20 or 22 inch, Superior hard point saw 22 inch medium/22 inch coarse, ProfCut+ 22 inch medium/22 inch fine...)

thanks
