Dehumidfer problem

The message from "James Salisbury" contains these words:

When my ancient dehumidifier is working it blows out cool air as it works by cooling the air below the dew point. The moisture then freezes to the refrigerant coils and later melts into the container below when the cooling cycle is off.

So where does the heat dissipated by the compressor/fan and the latent heat of evaporation/freezing go? Mine blasts out warm air when it is working properly.

Seriously though mine gives out very little heat and the draught is cool to the hand. What I didn't check was the temperature of the room which is only 60F. The cool draught is actually at 62F. I have never had cause to dismantle it so I don't know whether there is something in the base that acts as a heat sink when the compressor is running. It is certainly very heavy for its size.

However mine works and the OPs doesn't which leaves the question why wide open. It seems to me that if the compressor is doing its job the refrigerant coils must get cold so if the humidity is high some moisture must condense out and from there get into the collecting tank. I suppose there is an outside chance that the relative humidity is really quite low and single glazing is doing a better job of removing what moisture there is than the dehumidifier but that begs the question why the dehumidifier is running at all.

You should be able to hear the compressor start up - lust like a fridge - this is seperate from the fan.

If it doesnt its faulty.

My first Ebac was did this - replacement worked fine.
