De-coking an oil Aga

Ive been running this for 20+ years and every 6 months as fuels have degraded, it needs the burner decoking.



This is normally an hours struggle with chisels and sharp knives and the like.



Until the courier threw a parcel into the garden containing these:

The straight cut one ripped through the carbon in about 15 minutes.



A 4mm drill bit bored the carbon out of the feed pipe.

All back and working in record time.



And my hands stayed clean. Since a regular Aga service is getting on for £100 these days, it's well worth it.

When I worked for L B Fuels. the local Shell agent, we used to use a long series hss drill to clear the coked up oil feed pipe. Many of the aga's we serviced had been converted from solid fuel models and we had a tripod wheeled hoist device to lift the cast iron chamber sleeve out of the way to gain access for cleaning out the interior space and flue ways. Aga''s made originally for oil were of much lighter construction so didn't require the hoist
