Cut the non-DIY political crap, chaps?

Gareth isn't in my killfile. Quite a few others are.

This time I agree. Any thread mentioning Brexit gets killed - but sometimes threads drift.

OK, usually they drift...

Gareth is an insidious troll. If you don't ignore him it won't be long before he's starting five of these threads a day and he won't be happy until the group is all about him.

Erm, your feed must be particularly bad is all I can say. I do not think you will change what has been going on since I've been here in the 1990s. You could make it a moderated group, but who would do the work?At the very least you would need a moderation bot, and trying to get newsgroups changed over the whole world so that all new posts go to the moderation address has been a problem for many years now. If human moderated, the immediacy goes, and soon or or later so does the moderator leaving the group dead in the water. You can kill file people you find tiresome or just learn to sort the messages . I do a bit of both, and then sometimes you can still reply to the odd off topic post if you want. If you use major killfiles though sooner or later you end up not seeing anybody at all. It is one of the prices we pay for using newsgroups. However Forum type systems are the devils work, and I'd much rather have the pollution to ignore than that draconian inefficient front end any day. Brian

And of course there are the potty mouths on all groups, oh and the trolls, sometimes one and the same. it is unfortunately how the world is. I suspect you have never been exposed to social media then? I have no real issue with any of it, its just so easy to skip whole threads whether its talking about drain cleaner or Polly Ticks. Remember this is plain text, no pretty pictures and hence the data space is minute by comparison to other forms of mass participation systems. Brian
