Cracking Grout

May 30, 2007 2 Replies

Hi all,

I've recently had my bathroom Tilled.

I waited a week before applying any fixings such as the Electric Shower and Soap dish etc

In on one of the walls I noticed that small cracks are forming in the grout. When the tiler did the work, he had it done in one day. Would it be possible that he didn't allow the Adhesive to dry be for applying the grout?

Whats the best way for this to be sorted... remove the old grout and re-do it? (do I have grounds to ask him to do this?)

Or... could I get away with filling it with a shower type silicone?

Thanks loads,

Shay

I'd be inclined to ask him to sort it but he will possibly just regrout it on top of the existing grout and wipe it off leaving the cracks filled in

I've just looked at an adhesive tub and,as I expected,it says to wait

24 hrs ( 48 in case of non-porous surfaces) before grouting and was quite insistent about letting the adhesive dry out before grouting .

Just a note... the Grout is only cracking on the wall I have the fixings attached to... thats why I don't think it was dry.
