Computer moving

I've got to arrange moving a few PC system units between offices. Does anyone know of a service that will turn up, box them up and move them. The original packaging has been thrown away, and TNT refused to move them unpackaged.

I need to arrange it from my end, for various reasons.

Have you tried Googling for computer removal companies? Be sitting down when you get the quote though.

Removals firms do it at a price. Man with van outfits would probably be a cheaper option.

The way I have seen it done is:

Hire lots of big packing[1] stackable crates;

PCs with lots of bubblewrap. Try to pack like with like - eg all monitors togther, bases in another crate.

Hire man with van to move the crates.

Crating things seems to be the usual way to move any significant amount of stuff between offices in one hit - the crates are strong, stackable and regular sized which is what blokes with vans like.

If you have > 20-30 or so (you said "few" so I assume not):

Hire some wire cage trollies:

take some finding but are hireable)

and pack the PCs and monitors (with bubblewrap) and again hire man - but this time with luton van with tailift.

The advantage is you can wheel these around your new building easily then unpack.

Displays and ephemera too, or just system units?

For system units they'll pack nicely into pretty much anything, and as long as they're not allowed to move around all you really need is some carboard protectors taped at each corner. I once remember shifting 21 Microvax machines in the back of a Vauxhall Corsa :-)

How far is the move, and where from/to? I ask because my son does this.

I work for a really big multinational IT company. The last time we wanted to move servers between 2 offices about a mile apart in central London, we used Sainsburys shopping trolleys.
