Commonhold

Depends which side of the fence you sit, could be a good thing for leaseholders. Not sure how the Duke of Westminster will see it.

Commonhold is simply a new way to own a flat. It is not a means to acquire a freehold of an individual flat which is presently leasehold, nor will it have any effect on the day-to-day management of leasehold flats. There are procedures to convert a leasehold building into a commonhold (see below) but, unless this is done, the introduction of commonhold will not affect an existing leasehold flat in any way.

I live in a house which was converted into flats some time ago, and as a group-owned management company we have just finished buying the freehold. Would there be any advantages (apart from the lease length issue) to us converting to commonhold?

It does if you own the freehold of blocks of flats and sell the leases. The current system of buying-out leases put people off but this one may not.
