chimneys

they are building houses near to me, and I was amazed to see ready built chimneys in stock waiting to be placed on the roof. Different colours and styles, looked like fibreglass or some such thing.

Yep, bollox to appease the planners by "maintaining the street scene".

Might actually be used for wood burners, which are a significant contributor to carbon particulates.

They would have a hard time doing that on the newbuilds I am working on. There is no chimney breast or fireplace:-)

what they need is a nice flueless mains gas fire with catalyzer like mine ....99% efficient ....

They look very odd while the roof is under construction, perched up on top of the rafters with no brickwork underneath them. sometimes they will have a flexible flue pipe leading up to them through the loft space.

these new builds are flying up, they are almost like flat pack homes, they may be fuel efficient and fairly photogenic, but I would imagine they will not last 70 or 80 years.
