I use Plastazote LD33 in various places in my boat and I've been wondering how inflammable it is. The data sheet says:-
Automotive FMVSS.302 – Burn rate <100mm/min. Pass at 9mm
Where FMVSS.302 is the 'test standard'. Can anyone tell me what this means in real terms? It looks as if it is acceptable for (some sort of) automotive use, if so I'm fairly happy. In many cases it has replaced very old (and thus probably rather inflammable) expanded polystyrene,

Yes, thank you, it does basically tell me what I wanted to know. The "Automotive FMVSS.302" standard is required for any material used in a vehicle that is accessible to the occupants. A burn rate of less than
102mm/minute is required. I think that '9mm' means that Plastazote burns at 9mm/minute which is well within the standard. So I'm fairly happy using it in the boat some more.It's quite expensive compared with some other insulation materials (it's not really aimed ot thermal insulation) but it's easy to cut and handle, no nosty dust or fibres, it's smooth and acceptable as 'finish' in less exposed areas such as inside cupboards.
So maybe I will just stay with Plastazote everywhere rather than trying to find something else.
