Can a UK plug have round pins?

Writing as a former retailer: when Labour brought in split-rate VAT i.e.: 25% luxury rate; 8% standard rate; 0% for cold food, childrens' clothing and books (I think); our VAT system also had to account for 'exempt rate'. I'm not sure what goods were 'exempt'; possibly energy in those days. The whole thing was a nightmare to administer; fortunately it was a long time ago.

Incidentally, the punitive 25% rate and the others together brought in less revenue overall than the previous 10% flat rate. That's political dogma for you.

Of course, it still happens, but not due to tax.

You can buy the same item in a normal shop, or from one specialising in disability equipment, where it will cost twice as much.

Our house built 1948 had 15A round pin sockets on a radial downstairs and a ring upstairs. There were two sockets downstairs and three upstairs.

Socialists have difficulty in grasping the idea that reducing taxes can increase tax revenue.

Although not for power, a friend installed varnished rather than painted skirtings. He asked me about fixing them and I suggested making a feature of it using brass screws and cup-washers - thus making them removable for adding phone, aerial, satellite, network or hi-fi cables in the future.

It is quick in terms or less total machine time, but uses far more of her time than just chucking as many loads as required in an automatic machine and letting it do it's thing.

My mother stayed with a twin tub long after auto machines became available. She reckoned much lower running costs. Perhaps more important to a widow on a limited income.
