C&G 6084 (level 3) - See what it takes.

Apr 04, 2005 15 Replies

Here is an example question from a C&G 6084 Level 3 assessment. I wonder who might get 'referred' on this? This is a required qualification for all who may self-certify Part L compliance. What is the main characteristic of a combi boiler?

a) It provides instant hot water at mains pressure. b) The heating goes off when a hot tap is opened. c) It produces more hot water than a regular boiler. d) Two boilers can easily be combined for more hot water.

:-) :-) :-)

Although 'none of the above' is the main characteristic of a combi boiler, which combines wet central heating with instantaneous hot water. (The answer (a) also applies to a multipoint.)

Owain

FFS Is Dr Combi setting questions for the C&G now?

LOL even *I* don`t need to phone a friend on this one :-}

No I think they are setting questions to detect (and fail) him. 8-)

Didn't think you needed 6084 to work in a plumber's merchants ;-)

All are characteristics. The main one is: It "combines" the hot water and heating into one case.

This is all common knowledge, but obviously not by the people here.

What are the main characteristics of a combi boiler?

a) It provides instant warmish water at what passes for mains pressure in most parts of the country. Of course in those areas where the pressure is not woefully inadequate the output temperature will be luke-warm at best.

b) The heating goes off when a hot tap is opened so by the time the bath is full the bathroom is freezing.

c) It produces more hot water than a 30 year old unserviced regular boiler with a faulty flue does.

d) Two boilers can easily be combined so that when one of these insane contraptions dies the other one hides the fact from you until it too dies a few weeks later

e) They are recommended by British Gas, IMM, B&Q and it would appear CORGI. Nuff said - get a real boiler !

..combi boiler he thinks he knows ..the aspects of why it goes ..it's sad to see his babble and drool ..making him out to be a total fool ..but this uk.d-i-y ..any old half-wit can say why

Cos they are easy to install.

IMM, He has his reasons. B&Q They sell what people want to buy. and it would appear CORGI. They have little opinion on the matter other than to recommend that the members install what works well, safely, legally and satisfies customer.

They are _all_ real some are better than others.

The option for 'none of the above' was not present on any question.
