Wow, I didn't know that our nuclear subs were *that* big !. (assuming similar design of reactor etc)

but in summer there is less need to use them at full power (or at all, isn't that when France etc does maitenance on their nukes ?) - since we then have 'plenty' of solar and wind.

Most ashp are fitted, and will continue to be, to existing water based heating systems. Isn't there a problem with condensation when providing cooling via such an arrangement.

The problem with regulation bureaucracy goes beyond nuclear: HS2, Lower Thames Crossing, etc. The answer is to fix the bureaucracy. AIUI, SMR reactors only do the heat bit, the electrical generators, steam turbines, secondary cooling are still done on site.

The eternal optimist, eh? Why you expect that Reform to fix anything baffles me. Fixing things requires technical skill, not just a rejection of woke and immigration. Using your own language, the problem is that the public vote for art students. It won't make much difference if they are students of Breugel or Tracey Emin, they won't understand tech or engineering. The silly old buggers will probably start fracking where it won't work.

However the SMR approach relies partly on the assumption that it's easier to design a new reactor than to redesign political bureaucracy.

AIUI he was lobbying for Russian interests. The 10 years seems quite harsh compared to penalties for other MPs who lobbied for corporations and foreign nations. Many MPs get rewarded for lobbying for Israel. Many MPs receive undisclosed gifts from rich benefactors. Starmer receives gifts and only has to apologise. Priti Patel colludes with Israel and only has to resign for a bit. Owen Paterson just had to resign for breaking paid advocacy rules. Peter Mandelson got into bother on multiple occasions.

Don't get me wrong, I think cash for questions or advocacy is wrong, and I'm glad to see an MP punished. I'm just not sure this guy is being treated fairly while other MPs stick their snouts in the trough without consequence. A bit like he is a sacrifice that enables the practice to continue.

Russia owns half the labour party, a good many Tories, probably all the Lib Dems and the Greens and 90% of the EU.
