Bemis Statite toilet seats, only one chance to get it right?

We have some quite old Bemis toilet seats which are pretty sound still, my M-I-L has just broken hers so I was thinking of getting a Bemis to replace it.

However I'm not sure I'm keen on the Bemis 'Statite' fitting that they are saying is so clever. It says:-

The FSC certified American Innova seat features STA-TITE: the patented fixing system that always STAYS TIGHT and takes the guesswork out of installation. The lower portion of the nut shears off when the proper tightness is reached, so it is always PERFECTLY TIGHT.

So does this really mean you can only every fix the seat once? So it's "fitted for life" and if it doesn't "stay tight" for any reason then you've simply got to throw it away and start again.

Does anyone here have any experience of STA-TITE, good or bad?

Recommendations welcome for other brands as well.

shows a hex bolt left over, after the bit at the bottom is snapped off, so you can overtighten it later. ;)

Or, indeed, remove it if necessary.  Making the latter impossible withoutdestructive methods *would* be remarkably poor design.

Sounds vaguely like the bolts that fixed ignition locks to steering columns.

for the snap-off design, it's not primarily to achieve a given torque, it's more an extended nut for deeply recessed bowls, and they are too stingy to supply a pair  of long and short nuts. There are no dilemmas, only features.I always put super glue on the studding at the top end.You always have the option to remove the lid and seat by undoing the wood screws, and rotating the entire hinge to tighten.
