Batteries a bit smaller than C-cells

I bought a pair of rechargeable C-cells to repair a cordless screwdriver which wasn't working quite as well as it used to. To my annoyance, I have just realised that the cells in the screwdriver are just a bit thinner and shorter than C-cells.

Any idea what they are?

There are "sub-C" cells which are shorter than C cells. Haven't measured them so I can't say they're thinner. They're commonly used in drills and electric-powered model aircraft. See them here:

Actual measurements would be useful.

Almost certainly known as Sub-C. Dunno why, but they're near universal for power tools. Just to be awkward, I suppose. But they're easy enough to get from even Maplin in both plain and tagged types and in a variety of capacities - both Ni-Cad and NiMH.
