Bannister nut spanner

Need to tighten up a couple of bannister bolts with the nuts recessed ina tight opening: could probably butcher them with a screwdriver or make something, but I'msure there's a proper tool for the job - something that will mate with thecastellations on the nut at 90°?Any suggestions what to look for?

I?d chisel the hole a little bit larger and use a ring spanner or ground down open ended one.

Or tightened it up originally with a Geordie 'spanner' ?
