Another wiki article: Ornate shelves

Although I did these a while ago, I just got round to writing up some words on them. It might be of interest for anyone wanting a small woodworking project.

The main idea was for a fancy shelf for displaying plates and other objets d'art. Ultimately I made seven of these for running round three of the walls at a high level in my hallway:

Ideal for displaying some crystal goblets and an interesting collection of books about Venice, for example ;-)

That effect is rather exaggerated on that particular shelf (and its matching counterpart). It came from a rather rough plank I had sat about in the workshop, which I bought some time ago. It looked like it had been finished with an adz! (it was a cheap board end - which I had figured would plane up ok). When I planed it however you could tell the grain was all over the place with burrs and all sorts which made it rather unpredictable. Still when finished it actually looked quite interesting.

Feel free to bid ;-)

I seem to be sinking under crystal at the mo. Fil[1] is retiring, and hence trying to get short of a rather eclectic mix of glass remnants.
