Another Electrical Question

Hello

I have the following setup

my dishwasher is spurred from a double socket and spurred from that is my hot tub. Now from what I understand this is not a clever bit of wiring, so I would like to make right.

I no longer need the socket which the dishwasher is plugged into but I do need to run some power to my kitchen island. So ideally I would still need power to my hot tub and a new power supply to my island spurring from this double socket

Am I right in stating that if I replace the dishwasher switched socket with a fused control unit that I can run both the hot tub and the new power to the island from it?

If not what would be the best way to do this without disrupting plaster or using an extension lead for the kitchen island?? Thanks in advance!

Richard

Yes, that is correct. It would limit everything after it to 13A though so it could be a problem depending on what rating the hot tub is and what you plug in to the island sockets.

Another option would be to disconnect the dishwasher socket and connect it straight through to the island sockets as a siingle spur. Depending where your hot tub is you could then either spur the supply for it from another socket on the ring or run a radial back to the consumer unit. Doing it this way you'd have more power available at the island.

though

OK I shall check. I think the Wine cooler will be fine, not sure about the tub though.

Can you explain why its bad to have a spur from a spur? everything is working fine even if I put the dishwasher on at the sametime. There is always power going to the tub.

Thanks for all your help!

Cheers

The idea is that if you start adding spurs to spurs etc... and loading each spur to the max then the length of cable from the first is at risk of overheating\loading. It's a blanket rule that has always been adhered to, even though one spur with 13A on it equates to 13 spurs with 1A each on them it's not the done thing. In the future someone could come along without knowing this and start loading up all the spurs and overload the first leg of the spurs.

Gotcha, thanks for your help. I checked the hot tub its currently plugged into a weather proof outside single socket with RCD protection and its rated at 13AMP so the FCU option should be fine. cheers again
