That was the ?ours? I mentioned upthread . It was the bell tower which unusually has a wooden top storey not much higher than the main building surmounted by a pyramid shaped roof so in a way it looks unfinished rather than ornate but it has been like that since 1090. Doubt the lead was that old but it had been up there since the 1700?s as various historical events were inscribed in it like the Battle of the Nile and onwards through Jutland.

True. At Grenfell,the fire came up the outside and through the windows.

Or maybe to keep the residents out so there is actually a lift for the firemen to use.
