Airport scanners

I don't miss film. (or LPs... I've digitised my entire collection with a high quality ADC and spend _ages_ getting the clicks out now I don' have to put up with them.

Come to that, I don't miss clockwork watches, yet there has always been a fashion for them. I want a watch that gives me the right time, and I won't mind too much if I lose it / it is stolen.

But film bags? When film was popular I had contacts inside aviation. Perhaps the new ones are cleverer, but in the old days if they couldn't see what was in the bag they just turned the power up until they could.

I used to take a film bag as protection against accidental or unexpected radiation but mostly so that I could hand over a big, brightly illustrated thing to the scanner operator for hand inspection and everybody would know what it was. I guess I'll have to start doing that again.
