What is the best type of glue to stick rubber pads onto the bottom of wooden table/chair legs?



If it makes a difference I should say that the wood in question is "slow grown European Redwood" and it's a new set of garden furniture (table, 2 chairs and 2 benches).


I dont think anything will survive a rain soaked outdoors for very long. CA glue is likely to penetrate the best, but I would do 3D printed little rubber soled clogs for the feet and let friction do the job.

Even better 3D print out of one of the flexible polymers.

Problem with that is that it would pierce the wood and that's just what I was trying to avoid - or am I fussing over nowt?

The issue is that when people sit down and get up, the chair gets nudged sideways a bit, which puts large shear forces on a glued joint. You can try, and see how often it needs to be re-done. A few pads a year might be acceptable.

If you're worried about moisture, it can enter sideways without touching the piercings. If you think it only enters the piercings, add a layer of waterproof glue between the wood and the rubber to stop water getting between the wood and the rubber.

Get some "cups" printed to fit over the feet. A good excuse to buy that

3D printer you've been wondering about ...

What are you trying to achieve? Longevity through keeping the wood dry, preventing slips, or something else?

For the table at least, I would consider drilling a hole into the end of each leg, and fitting a 'hard plastic' rod which protrudes just slightly: 7 or 8mm. The 'prongs' lift the end grain off the wet surface (I am assuming a patio or similar) a smidgen

Isn't that going to make the problem much worse with water filling the cup and staying there to soak into the wood ?
