Advice on Shop vacs......and sawdust collector question. I need a shop vac badly and want to get a good one.

It is relatively quiet, as least as quiet as shop vacs get, and has good suction. It compares favorably with my old Shop Vac brand "quiet" vac. No matter which shop vac you end up using, the best investment you can make is a "fine filter" bag.

How to wind a trimmer wire to stop it knotting up?

I know htis is hard to explain, the easiet way to see what I mean is to visit a bait and tackle shop that re-winds bait casting reels, to see how the line comes off the bulk spool onto the reel.

About 4 months ago a friend of mine called me around 1 am, knowing that I am a night-owl, to ask if he could pop over for a quick emergency shop visit. He shows up with a 15 lb lead ball chained to his foot.

General musing - how long would you expect modern appliances to last?

The Hoover man would visit houses to maintain vacuum cleaners. Replace the rubber band. Replace "headlamp", if needed. Clean it all out and, for good measure, pop a new bag in. The Morphy Richards toaster got taken round to the local electrician's shop to have the element(s) ...
