Help! Radiators plumbing

I dont have service caps and not near a plumb shop, would replacing the thermo valves and turned to off suffice?

light switch pull cord

Could you use a snap link from a fishing shop, possibly with a swivel included. I use them for kite strings.

Bulb Color

I have florescent lights in the shop. What color bulbs (cool white, warm white, etc.) are best to avoided eye strain?
