Counter top

I need to replace a counter top, on the cheap, but I want it to last! I will be making my own, with some sort of lamiate. My question is the substrate. The last counter was made from laminate and particle board substrate and the partical board got wet and of course, expanded.

Top fixing

Is it possible to buy conversion kits to change the "standard" bolt through hole, wing/hex nut toilet seat attachment, to the "top fixing?" type - (the type where you can't get your hand up at the back of the bowlto turn the screws)?

Workbench top?

I noticed some workbenches are made with solid maple tops and others using something like 4 sheets of baltic birch plywood laminated together. Would there really be a big difference between these types of tops besides price? Or would the solid maple be really superior? Regards. -Guy

I have been studying everyones work benches and noticed that most of them are built out of maple. I understand that maple is very hard but I don't think it is readily available where I live (Sask, Canada). Birch is very common here but is it anywhere close to being as hard as maple? Does anyone see ...

Workbench top

I brought the pallet home thinking I could find a use for it, and decided to use this to make my next workbench top. I've been bringing home pallets that have 32"x46" 3/4" Oak 7 ply and using this to build my cabinets with. I've brought home about 10 or so of these.

Workbench Top

Following Lew's outline for making a workbench top, I plan to rip some 8-foot, 2 by 8s, with my BS (since I already own one and not a TS yet) and glue them face-to-face, with the factory milled edge down. First I'll glue in pairs, then create quads, etc.

Workbench top

I picked up (dumpster diving) a commercial work bench top. It is stamped "Hallowell Shop Top" It looks (end view) like several wood strips glued up with the top and bottom surface coverd with a particle board covering.
