Short of replacing the drywall entirely and installing it correctly...Vertically or Parallel with structural framing and back-blocking any and all unsupported edges. You can either scrape, grind and sand all joint treatments off, without ever damaging the drywall's paper. Or…

Short of replacing the drywall entirely and installing it correctly...Vertically or Parallel with structural framing and back-blocking any and all unsupported edges. You can either scrape, grind and sand all joint treatments off, without ever damaging the drywall's paper. Or, you can skim-coat everything with new tape over the old work. Works very well.
