OK....I'm playing the name that orchid game again. The taxonomists have been messing around to confuse things again!
I have a great plant in bloom from our friends at Oak Hill Gardens. It was part of the 10 for $50 deal last summer.
The label is Catleytonia Maui Maid x Blc. Mahina Yahiro. On the first bloom it has 12 flowers about the size of a 50 cents piece. Together they look like the head of flowers on a hydrangea. STUNNING!
So I when to the RHS to see if it was named. Well, it appears that something has been renamed and the BLC Mahina Yahiro is now Rhynchosophrocattleya Mahina Yahiro. When you cross this with a Cattleytonia the RHS seems to call it Peetersara.
When I go to other sites it appears people are calling this Otaara.
Anyone know what to call it?
Thanks, Gene
